  Cualli Tonalli,

I am very happy to see more of us are aware of our Indigenous roots.

As Indigenous people of our continent we must keep going forward.

TEXAS BAND OF KICKAPOO ACT, PUBLIC LAW 97-429 [H.R.4496]JANUARY 8, 1983. The Kickapoo Indigenous people from Mexico are entitled to freely pass and repass across the International border separating our ancient ancestral land.

In 200 B.C., the Anasazi people from the present-day State of Utah, were a Nahuatl speaking people like the Aztecas Mexicas. The Aztecas Mexicas are the descendants of the Anasazi.

Today, we can prove in federal court that we are Indigenous people of this continent.

Thank you for your time!

Nochipa,

Hey, I read your article on "Is a Chicano the same thing as a Mexican?" or something like that. It was really helpful, thanks. I would have gone around calling people "spanish" forever, though I know that's wrong. I think I'm going to continue not mentioning people's ethnic background at all, though, unless it's significant.

Hello everybody.I am writing you guys to say that what you are doing is very important.I was adopted and raised European-American but my birth fathers ancestry was from the Mexican state of Nayarit and he was part Huichol Indian.I was raised without any Mexican culture, something that still saddens my heart.I try to act Guero NorteAmericano but my soul tells me I am Mexican and indigenous.I think we of Mexican descent have a very powerful genetic memory. We can't fight who we are,it's in our blood and those of us who are smart embrace this.I want to say even though I was raised white I consider myself Indio Mexicano and am so proud and grateful for my heritage.Keep up the good work.Mexica Teahui!

I hope you guys continue with this nice web site it empowers good principles. Even though my nationality is Salvadorean, I would like to express that the Mexicans or Mexican Americans have always been an inspiration to all of us Hispanic Americans. The rich culture, politics, art philosophy and history have fed our minds with good values. May the other cultures study the Mexican culture and see what example you set here in the USA and the rest of the world as well. Gracias.

It is rather unusual what you try to explain about nuestra gente and rather interesting. I do believe that we are pure indigena but do know that there are nuestra gente que si son meztizo, y hasta este dia they call themselves just that. It is true though, that when someone leaves their community and finds somewhere else to live they are then meztizo, una mixta. Veronica E. Yanez

I am glad to see more and more people from both the U.S. and Mexico rediscovering their indigenous roots. As a Chicano who is rediscovering his own roots, I am proud to see more resources available to us to learn more about our sacred calendar, religion, and history. People do not seem to realize that the Mexica Nation and the Azteca Nation in general still exists. It exists in places in Mexico that the ignorant refute. It exists in the places that the uneducated haven't learned about yet. It exists within us who wish to seek it, the heart of the people. Another country can destroy a civilization, but it can never destroy the will of a people. MEXICA TIAHUI! 10-Tecpatl Mixcuauhtli

Hello,I am looking for any input anyone might have about an artist who aws well known in the early 70's who I only remember as "cat felix" as far as I know he the one who got the Estrada Courts mural project on it's feet during this time.I know he and other artistos had a small gallery on ether 3rd or 4th streets in ELA.If Anyone knows of him or his work I would appreciate anything you could forward. I was one of the homeboys from Estrada at that time(16 yrs old),and was lucky enough to work with him.Cat and his crew of older homeboys always tried to tell us younger homeboys that education about who and what you are and unity as a raza was more importante that dying for the name of a street.Maybe somewhere deep inside I was listening. Viva La Causa! Sonny.

does anybody has any knowledge about the true origins of the virgin mary that is currently in mexico city? this is a delicate subject and I hope those of you who understand what I am trying to say agree with me for those who don't sorry, I have the impression that the manta de juan diego was a painting by someone to finally conquer the mexica people. The term aztec is a fairly new term our real name is mexica people, I see that many of us refuse to be called latinos and I agree with that so lets call ourselves mexicas.

The effort you made in opening this webpage,I hope pays results my people still lives in slavery and is our duty as mexica descendent people to get our people out of the mental and physical slavery we are suffering, is up to you the educated ones to show why you are proud to be a mexica, we are the most racist people with our own people, we don't help each other like we should but websites like this are a start, we are the way we are because we are people with a history of betrayal, never of unity, the most fundamental values of our cultures are today underground and are slowly being shown to us, the problem is that the real mexica people are still under the oppression of the spanish empire even today as we are showing our freedom of expression in the US in mexico people are still being murdered for their toughts and that is an embarrasment for me personally. let's be realistic and let's start a war against this, not a war of arms, but a war of ideas that can be infused in our people. I have a lot to say about this subject I hope I can find in you the courage I need to start the new renaissance of my people.

I am proud to represent them! I have to admit among ourselves we are racist with our own people more than other races but you know that comes from because we fear what we do not know. Ignorance also play part in this. We have to educate ourselves and our children about our past, present and future. This is a great website, now that I reading various pages in it! It was awesome to find such interesting site. Como mexicana que soy les doy las gracias for having a site to educate people! I do consider myself Mexicana, not latina, or hispanic. I am part india- mixtec, zapotec,- spanish, french! Percentages I do not know and do not care. I am who I am and that is what matters. I come from Oaxaca. No?

I'm a Political Science and Chicana/o Studies major at LMU in Los Angeles and am always looking for new sites, Chicana/o, Mexicana/o, todo. This is the first one I've seen that focuses on the indigenous, I hope to see more because this part of our ancestry is often ignored. I also think it's importnat to know the background of some labeling terms like "hispanic" (Ronald Reagan)and "latino" (a generalizer often used by people too lazy to take the time to identify our unique ethnicities). I personally prefer "Chicana" to "Mexican American" because of what I learned about these terms. Mexican American was most used by peple seeking to assimilate to the Euro/AngloAmerican mainstream. I, for one, am a proud Chicana who acknowledges my European roots but embraces my indigenous core and alma. Everyone, please keep searching for more information about our cultura so that we never forget or are stripped of our language, stories, art again.

Just so you all know....Hispanic comes from Hispania, a Roman term for present day spain. To be hispanic really means to be from Spain. Latinos means Latin, but the Latins are the Southern European culture that includes Italy, Spain, Portugal ,And France. How did "Latin America" get its name? It was colonized by the Latin oppressor (duh). Raza means race, but the context of its use is to describe the new meztizo heritage, which in itself is a lie. Don't believe me? Do your homework, you may be surprised what you find!

I recently had heard that someone from MALDEF in L.A. had been quoted in the L.A. Times as saying that the Chicano Movimento is dead. What do you say to that? For more info you can contact partido_nacional@yahoo.com This is also the email to the Partido Nacional de La Raza Unida.

It is important to educate ourselves about our gente. In order to really know our future we must know the past. Our history as a people means that we come from the same Indian roots as the American Native Americans. The native americans are aware that we come from them and they come from us. It's just the Mexican who doesn't know this. I do not embraze the Spanish conquest. I am three fourths Indian and only one forth Spanish/Europeon. This Mexican will never say that everything is alright with us. Most Mexicans only think of the immediate situation and do not look at things as in the whole scope. Most of us take one day at a time and live from one pay check to another. I do not like that Mexicans do not consider themselves to be fully related to the Native Americans. We are native to this land too. It's time for history to be rewritten and told the truth about who and what we truly are. I am not Hispanic or Latino. I am Azteca/Yaqui and proud of it! My people didn't come from Hispanola. Those are labels that the white man has given us as identification of ethnicity. I do not accept this just because they want to call me this. I will determine what I am and how I should be addressed. Get it right. Know your history. Our people have been on this continent since before Jesus was born. That's how far back we go. I'm open to response for this one.
